People of PressPage: Lynne Dekker
Legal, HR and so much more
At PressPage we have some amazing colleagues saving the day, time and time again. One of those superheroes is Lynne Dekker. She is responsible for Legal, HR, Office Management, Operations and much more. We are eager to get to know more about this cheerful lady!
Could you describe briefly what your role is within PressPage?
Everything that is not already a department or part of a department is more or less my responsibility. My job is divided in half with one part Legal and one part HR, Office Management, Operations and support for Finance. It’s a typical start-up role, since I pick up anything and everything that I can help out with. I’m happy that a new Office Manager has started recently, so I can focus more on operations and internal procedures.
During high school I was part of the senior committee and while in university I was involved in several committees. Organizing things comes naturally to me, so it makes sense that in a company where the boundaries are not set, I tend to organize lots of things that otherwise might not be picked up. You do need the will to figure it all out. If you would come across an issue, just try to find a solution and go for it. A self starting and independent mind set is a big plus. I have wide interests, so a broad role like mine is perfect to start my professional career.
Three things you didn’t know about Lynne
By now my colleagues know quite a lot about me. I have lived in several places: Groningen, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Hattem, Heemstede. I took a gap year after high school and went to Barcelona to learn Spanish, and I gave ski and snowboard lessons in Austria. I also studied abroad – I did a semester of my Bachelor’s degree in England.
When I was younger, I was quite sporty. I did hockey and gymnastics, both at a high level. It was fun for a long time, but when my gymnastics partner quit, it wasn’t difficult to quit too. I love learning new things so I just found another sport to get into.
What may be surprising to some people is that I have done some thrill seeking things. I like doing new things and finding adventures. I went paragliding and I went swimming with white sharks. Looking back, the swimming with white sharks seems very sad for the sharks, I don’t think I would choose to do that now. I also have my motorcycle license, but I don’t get to drive too often. I don’t have the room around my apartment to park a bike unfortunately.
The secret dream of Lynne
I have quite the bucket list to be honest. There is nothing on there that I must do to complete my life, but they are wishes and dreams I would like to pursue. I would love to live abroad for a longer time than I did so far and I would like to take a trip around the world. A real big dream is to do something cool, leave some kind of legacy. I’m not sure how that must look yet. One day I am thinking of a goal that is more socially driven, and the other day it’s a completely selfish thing. It could be anything at this point: making a documentary, win the Olympics, climb Mount Everest, start a company, acting. It’s not about getting famous, it’s more about making the most of my life. At some point I will end up with a white-picket-fence life and a lovely family. I had a great childhood and would love to give that to my children too. But first I have some things I would like to pursue.
